About Tub and Pool Answers

Tub and Pool Answers is an independent UK guide for people who look after their own hot tub water — very often an inflatable, sometimes a hard-shell tub the dealer set up and then left with them. We cover the problems owners actually search for: cloudy, foamy, green or smelly water, chlorine versus bromine, pH and alkalinity, how often to drain and refill, filter care, and whether it’s worth running a tub through a UK winter.

Search any of those and nearly every answer is written by someone selling the fix — a hot tub dealer, a chemical brand, or the tub’s own maker. Plenty of that advice is sound. Plenty of it also ends with another bottle. That’s the gap this site exists to fill.

How We Work

We’re not pool engineers, water-treatment chemists or service technicians, and we don’t claim to have run or tested every product we mention. What we do is read the product labels and makers’ manuals properly, check them against UK water-treatment guidance (the Pool Water Treatment Advisory Group and the HSE), and look at what owners consistently report in real discussion threads. Where the evidence points one way, we say so. Where owners genuinely disagree, we weigh it and tell you which way we’d lean for your situation.

Our position, in one line: test first, change one thing at a time, and don’t assume the fix is another product — sometimes it’s a clean filter or a fresh fill.

What that looks like in practice:

  • The order of checks, not just a list of possible causes
  • Numbers with their source — the label, the maker’s manual, or a named UK body
  • UK conditions — hard-water areas, metered water, wet autumns, frost, and UK energy prices
  • Honest about the limits — we’ll tell you when to ask the maker, an electrician or your GP instead

What We Won’t Do

  • No health advice. Skin, infection, pregnancy or any medical question goes to the NHS or your GP.
  • No electrical how-to. Anything beyond “plug an inflatable into an RCD-protected socket” is a job for a qualified electrician.
  • No fabricated testimonials. We never invent personal-use stories or reader quotes. Owner experience is attributed to where it came from.
